The National Research Register (NRR) is a database of ongoing
and recently completed research projects funded by, or of interest
to, the United Kingdom's National Health Service (NHS). It contains
descriptions of research projects but doesn't include research
results, although links to the Research
Findings Register and to author abstracts on PubMed are included
where possible.
About 350 organisations (NHS Trusts, national and regional funding
programmes, universities, charities) in England, Scotland and
Wales contribute to the NRR.
Update Software collects updated project information from the
contributing organisations and merges it with existing records
every three months. As a result we publish a new issue of the
NRR every three months on behalf of the Department of Health.
We publish the NRR online and on CD-ROM using indexing and display
software developed by ourselves. This allows fast and sophisticated
searching of the records using both free text and Medical Subject
Headings (MeSH) controlled vocabulary.
We also work in collaboration with the Department of Health,
the NHS R&D Forum and Current Controlled Trials Ltd to identify
randomised controlled trials wholly-funded at NHS Trust level.
These trials are allocated International Standard Randomised Controlled
Trials Numbers (ISRCTNs). They are also listed in the NHS Trusts
Clinical Trials Register published by Current Controlled Trials
in the metaRegister of Controlled Trials (mRCT).
