Study-based
registers
Records in a "study-based" register are organised primarily by studies
(such as randomised controlled trials) and not by bibliographic
references. Each study record contains a list of bibliographic records
referring to that study. Here
is an example of what a study-based record looks like.
Update Software, as part of its contribution to the European EU-PSI
project, produced The
Mental Health Library, which contains the first ever study-based
register of trials in Mental Health. Five Cochrane Collaborative
Review Groups contributed records to this register. Two of those
Groups used MeerKat to build and maintain their study-based registers.
MeerKat
MeerKat is a bibliographic management software package developed
by Update Software for the Cochrane Collaboration. It has been developed
for individual Cochrane Review Groups to organise and maintain their
specialised register of studies for possible inclusion in systematic
reviews carried out by those groups. It:
- links citations to reports of studies, thus helping cut across
salami publishing
- links authors and their reviews to citations and studies
- helps track citations and study details sent to authors
- will export to the Cochrane CENTRAL Register at the touch of
ONE, yes ONE, button
- imports existing bibliographic registers, and, once in MeerKat,
duplicate checking is excellent.
