There is increasing international consensus that to ensure transparency and to increase public trust in the conduct of clinical research, all clinical trials should be registered in publically-accessible trials registers.
In a joint project to find unregistered trials, an extra 311 randomised controlled trials in England have been identified from the National Research Register, and added to the International Standard Randomised Controlled Trial Number (ISRCTN) register.

This interactive learning package was developed by the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP), part of the Public Health Research Unit, Oxford, UK. This issue contains 138,949 records in the NRR Projects Database collected up to June 2005. The NRR is a database of ongoing and recently completed research projects funded by, or of interest to, the United Kingdom's National Health Service.

This unique resource for the nephrology community now contains 80 full text Cochrane reviews as well as 8854 trials and other documents. Update Software is delighted to publish this 3rd edition of the Renal Health Library which is compiled by the Cochrane Renal Group in a project supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Amgen Australia. The Library is endorsed by leading nephrology associations such as the International Society for Nephrology (ISN) as well as ANZSN, IPNA and NKF.

Evolving City, a year-long programme of cultural events was launched today by Oxford Inspires. Update Software was chosen to design the website for Evolving City because of its expertise in combining clarity of presentation with database management and programming.

Update Software has joined other major publishers in providing their most relevant publications free to lower-income countries via the Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative (HINARI) site. Both The WHO Reproductive Health Library and La Biblioteca Cochrane Plus have been made available to all 114 countries on the HINARI list at no charge.

3399 new records have been added to this register of ongoing and recently completed UK research projects. This issue contains 129,396 records in the NRR Projects Database collected up to December 2004.

SHARED is a network of organizations willing to share health research related information on the Web. Commentaries from the WHO Reproductive Health Library, published by Update Software, are now indexed on SHARingPoint at www.sharingpoint.net and provide a valuable addition to this useful resource.

From January 2nd, 2005 Update Software no longer hosts the Internet version of The Cochrane Library, and subscribers will need to access the database through Wiley Interscience. The CD-ROM will still be produced by Update Software and is available from Wiley.

Our new online authoring and content management tool is being used by the WHO team to produce the Reproductive Health Library.

The Research Findings Register now has its own news feed which is updated every time a new summary is published in ReFeR. Link to the feed live on your Web pages or read with a standard news reader.

A widely publicized Cochrane Review stating that people who get medical advice from the Web actually get worse, has been retracted because of a critical error in reporting the results. It may turn out that people actually get better!

Update Software Ltd, in partnership with the Centre for Reviews And Dissemination, is introducing a new system for the publication of the Research Findings Register.

The National Research Register has been used to identify 395 new randomised controlled trials which were added to an international trials register.

Access to La Cochrane Library Plus en español is now free in Spain, Latin America and the Caribbean.
