Representatives from the Ibero-American Cochrane Network met with the Director of BIREME in Quito, Ecuador, on March 28th to support the inclusion of Update's Biblioteca Cochrane Plus in the Evidence portal at BIREME's Virtual Health Library (BVS). This will integrate products, services, news and events related to evidence to support the decision-making processes in health in Latin America and the Caribbean. Read the full article here.

There is increasing international consensus that to ensure transparency and to increase public trust in the conduct of clinical research, all clinical trials should be registered in publically-accessible trials registers.
In a joint project to find unregistered trials, an extra 311 randomised controlled trials in England have been identified from the National Research Register, and added to the International Standard Randomised Controlled Trial Number (ISRCTN) register.

This unique resource for the nephrology community now contains 80 full text Cochrane reviews as well as 8854 trials and other documents. Update Software is delighted to publish this 3rd edition of the Renal Health Library which is compiled by the Cochrane Renal Group in a project supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Amgen Australia. The Library is endorsed by leading nephrology associations such as the International Society for Nephrology (ISN) as well as ANZSN, IPNA and NKF.

Update Software has joined other major publishers in providing their most relevant publications free to lower-income countries via the Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative (HINARI) site. Both The WHO Reproductive Health Library and La Biblioteca Cochrane Plus have been made available to all 114 countries on the HINARI list at no charge.

From January 2nd, 2005 Update Software no longer hosts the Internet version of The Cochrane Library, and subscribers will need to access the database through Wiley Interscience. The CD-ROM will still be produced by Update Software and is available from Wiley.

A widely publicized Cochrane Review stating that people who get medical advice from the Web actually get worse, has been retracted because of a critical error in reporting the results. It may turn out that people actually get better!
